THE EXTREMELY NORMAL DAY WHERE EVERYONE WAS ALIVE AND VIC THOUGHT JESSICA WAS ATTRACTIVE It was a hot day at Bonus Action Park. The kind of hot day where everyone was sweaty, but in an attractive way and not in a gross way. Jessica found Vic by the unicorn carousel. “Hey,” Vic said. “Hey,” Jessica said. They stared at each other for a normal amount of time, followed by an abnormal amount of time. “You look nice,” Vic said. “You also have clothes,” Jessica replied. She had her camera around her neck. The camera rested against her chest in a way Jessica did not notice because Jessica was being respectful. She noticed it respectfully several times. Marcus arrived with lemonades. He could almost feel like Jessica’s brother, although neither of them would discuss that voluntarily. “I bought lemonades,” Marcus said. “That’s almost emotionally supportive,” Jessica said. “Don’t make it weird.” Lemon arrived with stolen Fast Passes. “You’re not a fuck-up,” Jessica told him. “You’re one of the best people in the world.” “Thanks?” Then Tommy Russo walked through the gates.Tommy looked nervous, like he expected someone to tell him he was not supposed to be there. But in this story, nobody was dead or trapped or being punished forever. Tommy was just late because he had stopped for gas. Jessica hugged him. “You came back,” she said. “You said you were coming for me.” “I was.” Tommy hugged her back because in this story he got another chance.Marcus looked away because he had feelings but did not enjoy having them publicly. They rode the haunted roller coaster. When a skeleton jumped out, Jessica grabbed Vic’s hand. “You can let go,” Jessica said. “So can you,” Vic answered. Neither did.They continued holding hands because neither woman was emotionally mature enough to lose a contest she had invented. During the fireworks, Jessica finally said, “I like you. Romantically. Not in a sister way, a haunted way, or a debt way.” “I know,” Vic said. “You searched ‘how to tell a girl you like her’ twelve times.” “That could have been anybody.” Vic kissed her. Behind them, Lemon cheered. Marcus told him to stop. Tommy cheered louder. Everyone was alive. Nobody vanished at midnight. Jessica did not have to save anyone for the rest of the evening. The end. Unless Vic wanted to kiss again.
